Making Green Tea
Making Green Tea
Green tea is recognized as a health-giving beverage - now rivalling coffee in the Western world. But if you're not familiar with a few basic techniques while making green tea, you may produce a cup that's grassy, bitter, or just too strong.
Making a perfect cup of green tea
Decide how many cups of green tea you want to make. The basic guideline for brewing or steeping green tea is one teaspoon (5g) of green tea leaves (or pearls) per one cup of water. This will yield one cup of brewed tea.
Measure out the desired amount of green tea leaves (or pearls) and place them in your tea strainer or sieve.
Fill a stainless steel ot glass pot with water and heat it to about 180 °F (80°C), using a cookery thermometer. The water should be removed just before it reaches boiling point.
Place the leaves (pearls) into a tea strainer or sieve and into an empty glass or teacup.
Pour the heated water into the teacup submerging the tea leaves.
Steep the tea leaves for 2 - 3 minutes but not any longer, or the tea will taste bitter.
Leave the tea to cool for a few moments and then enjoy your perfect cup of green tea!
