Green tea is now called the 'miracle drnk of the times' that can cure or prevent many of the potential human health problems. Green tea is the beverage prepared from the leaves of the plant, Camellia sinensis. Even though many other types of tea such as black tea, and oolong are available, the green tea is said to be more beneficial than the others.
The comparative study of lifestyles and disease, prevailing in different parts of the world, revealed that Asian people, who had the habit of drinking green tea, had lower incidence rates of cancer and heart disease, even though 75% of those people were smokers. Therefore, it is now believed that green tea has a positive effect on health.
Green tea has a proven track record of benefits for the average person and, if you do not have an autoimmune condition, it seems wise to include green tea in your diet.
However if you have a diagnosed autoimmune condition, especially a Th2 dominance disorder, green tea might not be for you.
Green tea consumption is associated with reduced mortality due to all causes and due to cardiovascular disease but not with reduced mortality due to cancer.
Drinking tea leads to certain health hazards which can't be ignored. Researchers show that anaemic people should avoid drinking tea around meal times as it can impair the body's ability to absorb iron from food. If tea is consumed with sugar, it my lead to health ill effects like acidity, tooth decay and gum problems. More than four or five cups of tea a day is not considered healthy for the body.
The only other reason to avoid green tea would be if you were pregnant. This is because green tea has a little caffeine which will cross the placenta to the fetus.
Green tea does however, have far less caffeine than coffee. So therefore green tea hazards are far outweighed by green tea benefits as far as health is concerned.
