Green Tea and Stomach Cancer

green tea and stomach cancer

What about green tea and stomach cancer?

If you have stomach cancer, you have what is the second most leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the western world.

There have been many studies into this disease in the hope of finding a cure in recent years.

How relieved would you feel if there was a simple method of inhibiting the growth of your tumor?

Perhaps you already know about the marvellous properties of green tea; in particular EGCG (epigallocatechin-gallate) which is a powerful antioxidant which studies show has the ability to slow the progression of many cancers.

A landmark case was conducted in Shanghai, China, from October 1991 to December 1993. 711 subjects and 711 controls were evaluated.

The 2 groups were as homogenous as could be, thereby eliminating outside contributing variables to the experiments. The researchers found that habitual Chinese green tea drinkers (regardless of when they began drinking tea) had a lower risk of developing this cancer than their non tea drinking counterparts.

The results were that EGCG has a positive effect on the inhibition of this cancer and also protects a number of organs in the digestive tract.

Further to this, a research team from Harvard Medical School in 2004, expanded the Shanghai study and reported that the EGCG in green tea impairs the growth and reproduction of cancer cells involved with Barrett's Esophagus.

This is a condition that often leads to the destruction of the cells lining the oesophagus increasing the risk of cancer.

This disease is often confused with 'heartburn' which is a precursor to it.

The Harvard study found that exposure to EGCG releases proteins known to repair DNA damage.

Now there is even more interest in researching the effects of green tea and stomach cancer.

So drinking green tea would be a healthy habit to aquire - it may even help you prevent the onset of stomach cancer.
