Green Tea and Fertility ?
What is the Truth?
Does green tea affect your chances of conceiving?
There is a claim made that green tea and fertility go hand in hand. What is the truth of this?
Helen Kim, a reproductive endocrinologist, says that there is no harm in drinking 1 or 2 cups of green tea a day while trying to conceive, but don't expect it to 'significantly' increase your odds of falling pregnant.
Although green tea's antioxidants (polyphenols) are shown to have so many health benefits, there is no research to show that these polyphenol compounds boost ability to conceive.
Some research suggests that two of the main ingredients in green tea, hypoxanthine and polyphenols, may lead to a higher percentage of viable embryos.
Other research has suggested that these compounds help increase the maturing of eggs, and may even make the eggs more receptive to sperm.
Drinking green tea may even help not only with female but with male fertility problems as well.
Some green tea advocates suggest that green tea may help with low sperm count, and even with sperm mobility.
There are countless women that will swear by green tea helping them produce more cervical mucus, but truthfully there is no scientific data to support their claims.
Many women do not produce much in the way of cervical fluid because they do not get enough water and fluids each day.
Green tea during pregnancy as well as before, will help hydrate your body so that it is better prepared to produce the cervical fluid your body needs to more easily get pregnant.
