Green Tea and Breast Cancer
How Green Tea Can Affect Breast Cancer
Green tea and breast cancer? Green tea has long had many health benefits associated with it and its curative properties have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years.
Green tea comes from the same plant, the Camellia Sinensis , as white and black teas, but the difference lies in the mount of fermentation that this tea undergoes in its production.
Because the fermentation is less, the polyphenols in the plant are preserved better. It is these polyphenols, especially one called epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG, that are considered to be the most active component in green tea.
EGCG is best researched of the polyphenols and several studies have suggested that it has cancer-fighting abilities. This is mainly because EGCG is found to minimize the cell damage that leads to tumor growth and cancer.
Dr Julie Sharp, a science information officer at Cancer Research UK said:"The causes of cancer are complex and both diet and our genetic make-up act together to influence our risk of developing the disease.
Cancer Research UK is currently involved in a large-scale study of diet and health that is researching the eating habits of over half a million people in 10 European countries to try and help unravel this complexity."
Research has also suggested that green tea lowers cholesterol levels, aids digestion, boosts the immune system and helps fight aging.
With all this in favor of drinking green tea, why wouldn't you include it in your diet?
