Antioxidants in Green Tea
antioxidants in green tea
Every month there is news of a newly found health benefit of green tea. "Green tea prevents prostate". "Green tea fights arthritis". "Green tea boosts detox enzymes". The list continues...
What is the magic green tea ingredient that is the subject of hectic current scientific research into green tea? Green tea antioxidants or [polyphenols - in particular, EGCG.
Antioxidants in green tea slow down aging by neutralizing free radicals. They perform healing of lesions (acne) and damage to cells that may allow cancers to occur.
Green tea contains 30% to 40% of the very powerful antioxidants called catechins (including EGCG). This is the equivalent of 8 apples' worth!
Researchers at the University of Kansas felt that EGCG is at least 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times better than vitamin E in protecting your cells DNA from damage by free radicals.
